Gyorgy “George” Toth holds Masters degrees in American Studies and English Language and Literature from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. George was born and raised in Budapest, and was a beneficiary of a Kellner Scholarship to Bard’s Program in International Education in 2001-2002, while he worked at the Institute of International Liberal Education. His scholarship experience launched his career as an academic, a proponent of international education, and an active member of the Hungarian nonprofit sector. Upon returning to Hungary, George finished his studies, taught at his alma mater, served as president of his scholarship’s alumni association, and worked with Dr. Zoltan Feher (Bard ’01-’02) on programming for college students and young professionals on current issues of geopolitics and society. George is especially proud that he helped win grants from the US Embassy and the Hungarian American Enterprise Scholarship Fund to build Hungarian civil society and the career of young intellectuals. While George has been pursuing a PhD in American Studies since 2004, he has an abiding passion for educational exchange and he has volunteered and worked for the international office of the University of Iowa as well as the Institute of International Education.
