Dr. Thomas Kerenyi came to the US in 1956 as a refugee from Hungary.  He was 21 years old at the time and halfway through medical school.  He completed his education and received his MD from Cornell University and his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.  The first 20 years of his professional life were spent in academic medicine and the next 20 in private practice.

In 1990 he established a fellowship for young Hungarian obstetricians, which enabled 11 students to study in New York for a year.

On the 50th anniversary of the revolution, his book Szivugy: An American Physician's Hungarian Memories was published by Springer in Budapest.

His wife Robin is a native New Yorker.  They have two children, both lawyers.
